Ione is dream facilitator, author, and educator who has taught and lectured extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Since the 1970s she has created small and large dream events and festivals in many cities. Most recently she has been creating ione's Dream Festival annually in the New York's Hudson Valley. Ione is also a psychotherapist specializing in the creative process, heritage, myths and dreams. She is the Founding Minister of the Ministry of Maat, Inc., and regularly recreates ancient rituals at the sacred sites of Egypt. She is the author of the memoir, Pride of Family, Four Generations of American Women of Color, Summit Books (1991), Avon Books (1993), Ministry of Maat Press, Inc. (2000).. She is playwright and director of the international work, Njinga the Queen King; The Return of a Warrior, with Sound Design and Original Music by Pauline Oliveros. She and Oliveros are currently completing the operas Lunar Opera: Deep Listening for _Tunes, Io and Her and the Trouble with Him, and a video opera entitled Hotel Regina.
She has been a frequent contributor to The Village Voice, The Christian Science Monitor, Ms., Essence, Vogue, Oggi and numerous other publications. Her journals were published by Ballantine in Private Pages: American Women's Diaries, 1830s -1970s. She travels extensively, giving readings and lectures and presenting workshops that focus on myth and memory, heritage and dreams.
